Groundhog, Woodchuck… Whatever

After many calls around town trying to find a trap that I could borrow to solve my groundhog problem, I finally got ahold of someone useful. I called the people at the Allegheny County information line and they directed me to the county health department. Apparently they lend out traps as long as you give them a $75 collateral check. They don’t “take care” of the groundhog for you, but they will allow you to trap it so that you have such an opportunity. I’m too much of a wuss to kill such a thing, so I asked my neighbor (ex-chief of police in our town) if he coulod help me out. He agreed without even hesitating. So I’m going to get a trap on Monday and see what I can catch. Hopefully it’s not a local cat, I’ve got enough of those.

I think you should name this critter and post pictures when you actually catch it. He can be like the official Vaxcave mascot – spreading the word about Vaxcave throughout Pittsburgh by being a nuisance to other local homeowners. Maybe you can attach a tracking device to him and your loyal readers can track his location.

Have I gone too far? 😉

Bridget may believe she did something similar when she got married.

1 point for you, Captain Obvious.

I’m so glad to be thought of as a mascot. That’s so touching. Particularly the part about being a nuisance to other homeowners. That part really warmed my heart.

I hope you are sitting down for this one. You don’t actually need to kill it, you can release it a few miles away in a more rural area if you want. Put the cage in your vehicle put cardboard under the cage or you may decide you want to kill it any way. Any forest near a field would probably be fine for it.

Bridget – my point was that you were the one gaining the mascot…not the mascot.

Ah yes, I suppose that makes more sense. Don’t mind me. I’ve been a little slow lately. 😉
