Three Rivers Heart Attack

The Steelers vs. NY Jets AFC playoff game was a heart stopper in Pittsburgh. I watched with Bridget, Bill, Laura, and Tom over at The Hive. When Doug Brien missed the first field goal I felt the city was blessed. When Brien missed the second kick, I knew the city was blessed, but I also knew that Brien was cursed.

Roethlisberger had decent statisitcs but his numbers didn’t match the game that he played. He played exactly like his first game against the Jets. Lackluster.

Thankfully the defense played very well. They basically only allowed 3 points. 14 points were no fault of theirs. 7 came against the punt team and 7 came against the offense on a returned interception.

Regardless, we live to play another day. I’m not sure who I hope we play on Sunday. My initial thought was New England, but as I sit here and watch the shoddy performance of the Colts I’m leaning toward Indianapolis. Faulk and Dillon are looking really good against the Indy run defense. I realize that we have the #1 rushing defense in the league but I still feel uneasy about facing New England. It seems we’ll just have to be prepared for anything.

Here’s to hoping that Pittsburgh brings their A Game against the team that shows up next week.

UPDATE: Looks like it’s gonna be the Patriots.

it was like four degrees (and windy!) in chicago yesterday, so i was surprised when i walked down the street at two in the afternoon and saw a line (a LINE!) of people waiting to get in the bar down the street. the bouncer was not letting anyone in, and you could see the place was packed. i walked by it again around 6:00, and the line was even longer! and by then, it was even colder. then i saw: they were flying a steelers flag! then i noticed all the people were wearing black and gold! there are SO many steelers fans everywhere, and they are SO devoted. and my heart went pitter-patter for pittsburgh.

I’m sure that everyone there was having heart failure as well. What a game!

It’s too bad you couldn’t be here with us. We had smore’s fondue! We dipped a Giant Eagle Big Ben Chocolate Cookie sheet in it. It was decadent. I recommend it highly.

No matter whats the result next Sunday we’ll forget about it before Laura’s wedding OK?

OTOH we could have a wedding football challenge – PIT guests vs NE guests? Laura plays for NE the first half then switches sides…..

  4. Laura says:

okay…because the steelers are going to win this weekend, if folks want to have a rematch after the wedding and the photos are taken, so be it ….that is fine with me…

Gosh what a game and I didn’t even get to watch it live. I was at work on saturday so I had to use the play by play on http://www.steelers.com to “see” what was happening. I did however tape the game at home on the ole vcr, so i did get to watch the game l8r that night, even though I already knew what happened. So it looks like we’ll play the Pats again. I was hoping it would be Indy but whatever, we beat the Pats once so who’s to say we can’t do it again. Go Steelers!

You will be pleased to know that my french professor is from Pittsburgh and told us all to root for “Dem Stillers.” Yes, she said, “Dem Stillers.” Otherwise she will come into class on Monday and openly weep before our very eyes.
