Yoga is Painful

I have respect for the folks that can attend Yoga classes on a regular basis. However, my first experience was pretty frustrating. I desperately wanted to enjoy myself.

Imagine that you are standing on the side of a bridge. You have a large, 150 lb. rock with a rope tied to it. The other end of the rope is tied to your ankle. Now imagine tossing that rock over the side of the bridge and feeling your ankle pop and crack as the rope hits its end. Imagine the weight continuing to pull and separate the bones in your ankle. About the time that you start to get used to the pain… yeah… that’s when the FA-18 Hornet drops the napalm cannister on you.

Yoga is not for anyone that has any history of injury to major joints. My ankle hurt almost the whole time. I tried to explain this to the instructor, but she happily walked away. My right wrist, given the scar tissue in it, didn’t fair well against all the weight balancing exercises. My left knee feels like Tanya Harding had a few rounds with it. My right shoulder, thanks to all the aforementioned weight balancing exercises, has decided to lock itself up.

Ibuprofen is my friend tonight. We’ll see how I feel tomorrow before I go signing up for anymore Yoga classes. 🙁

I’m so sorry, Dave. You obviously have a crappy instructor because while Yoga can be painful in the beginning, it should never hurt. Maybe you will get to do some downward dog farts! That should make up for it, fo’ sho’
