Interesting. On my Comcast Motorola non-DVR HD box, it's a 5-minite skip, not a 30-second skip.

Here is a more detailed page describing other things you can program into your remote, including setting up macros!

@Rebekah – Yes. It’s generally because of low quality coaxial cable or low quality line splicers. A technician can fix that for you. Re: copying to tape, there are many ways to copy to VHS. I can’t describe it in a blog comment though. Try googling for solutions.

i have the latest ComCast DVR HDTV box and i was wondering if you ever had trouble with the shows you’ve recorded skipping or like losing signal?? Also, if you know how to transfer shows i’ve recorded to tape?

Thanks sooo much AxsDeny. This feature is great. I am Christian and some movies get relatively bad in areas. This feature helps get past those unwanted areas one wishes NOT to view. I think this should be a feature that is available in DVD players. Or a flag option to pause when certain language and nudity etc. can be skipped over. I know when they make these DVDs these days, they could add a more child and certain adults friendly disk that you could turn this feature off or on. I’m glad you have found this feature. It’s a God send.

Tom, yes the receivers maybe identical, is the software?

Comcast & Insight Indiana (now Comcast ) both use TV Guide software for their DVR’s so that is why it works for those users.

The recievers are supposed to be identical. I got so many other things to mod that my cable box is kinda low on the list untill I get the firewire card.

I run nothing in stock form if I can help it!!! I got an unlocked Blackberry 8800 – modded!!, a razr v3xx – modded!!, a Blackjack not modded (yet) at least a dozen game consoles and a pc to play with. Trust me guys if the box can be modded at all i’ll get to it soon!!

Tom, the directions are written for the Comcast receiver. I don’t know about any other company and how their machines are setup.

Tried it by following the directions (stored to the "a" then the "#" key)and it didn't work.

I held the setup button longer instead of just pressing it once in the second step and now it randomly will swap between a recorded program and broadcasts when i press it (sometimes).

I'm looking around for some other ways to control the box IE aftermarket controllers, or modified versions of the stock remote. If I find anything I'll report back.

Also I am gonna pick up a firewire card for connection to my P.C., as I want the ability to control my dvr through media center.
