Apparently there is a “30 second skip” command that is available to the Motorola DCT6412 III PVR. If you have this version of the Comcast brand (and other cable carriers, to be fair) you can use the following instructions to map the 30 second skip feature to a button.
- Make sure the PVR is on. Press and release the “Cable” button.
- Press and hold the “Setup” button. Release after the “Cable” button blinks twice.
- Using the number pad, type “994″ and look for the “Cable” button to blink twice.
- Press and release the “Setup” button.
- Using the number pad, type “00173″.
- Press the button that you wish to have the FFW feature mapped to. I recommend a button that isn’t used normally. I used the “HD Zoom” button in the lower right corner.
The best part about this feature is that it’s not a fast forward feature. It indeed jumps forward 30 seconds immediately. It’s great.

Works Great with Insight Cable in Indiana
Hiya,
I did a dumb thing. I made the 9 key the trigger. How do you reset the remote to cancel the skip?
Jim
Tried it by following the directions (stored to the “a” then the “#” key)and it didn’t work.
I held the setup button longer instead of just pressing it once in the second step and now it randomly will swap between a recorded program and broadcasts when i press it (sometimes).
I’m looking around for some other ways to control the box IE aftermarket controllers, or modified versions of the stock remote. If I find anything I’ll report back.
Also I am gonna pick up a firewire card for connection to my P.C., as I want the ability to control my dvr through media center.
Carrier - T.W.C._____ Box - DCT6412 III_____
Tom, the directions are written for the Comcast receiver. I don’t know about any other company and how their machines are setup.
The recievers are supposed to be identical. I got so many other things to mod that my cable box is kinda low on the list untill I get the firewire card.
I run nothing in stock form if I can help it!!! I got an unlocked Blackberry 8800 - modded!!, a razr v3xx - modded!!, a Blackjack not modded (yet) at least a dozen game consoles and a pc to play with. Trust me guys if the box can be modded at all i’ll get to it soon!!

Anything for Motorola DCT2224/1662 for testing?
Tom, yes the receivers maybe identical, is the software?
Comcast & Insight Indiana (now Comcast
) both use TV Guide software for their DVR’s so that is why it works for those users.
I think it works on any Motorola DVR. Excellent hack.
