Kinney Landscaping

After seeing the stellar job that Bryan Kinney of Kinney Landscaping did on Ben and Gretchen’s place, we decided to have him replace the wall in our front lawn. The wall was made of railroad ties that were simply rotten and literally falling apart. I’ve included some before and after shots for comparison. His rates were really good and he was extremely thorough. I’m quite happy with how it turned out. We’ve got him doing some work in the backyard as well, so i’ll let you know how that goes. If you’d like to hire Bryan for some work, let me know and I’ll get you his information.

BEFORE:

Crappy railroad ties on the left side. Crappy railroad ties on the right side.

AFTER:

Left side of the wall with new block. Right side of the wall with new block.

At work yesterday, Jake pointed out that the PHP.net site was being weird. I loaded it and encountered this error:

Fatal error: Unknown function: AFG() in /home/local/Web/sites/www.php.net/include/mirrors.inc on line 18

Pretty funny considering the source.

While Launching Dreamweaver

I have no idea why an error would appear regarding a cpp file. Does Dreamweaver compile new versions of itself everytime it’s launched? That may explain why it’s so slow. ;)

titanApp.cpp??

Comcast Motorola DCT6412 PVR Hack

Apparently there is a “30 second skip” command that is available to the Motorola DCT6412 III PVR. If you have this version of the Comcast brand (and other cable carriers, to be fair) you can use the following instructions to map the 30 second skip feature to a button.

  1. Make sure the PVR is on. Press and release the “Cable” button.
  2. Press and hold the “Setup” button. Release after the “Cable” button blinks twice.
  3. Using the number pad, type “994″ and look for the “Cable” button to blink twice.
  4. Press and release the “Setup” button.
  5. Using the number pad, type “00173″.
  6. Press the button that you wish to have the FFW feature mapped to. I recommend a button that isn’t used normally. I used the “HD Zoom” button in the lower right corner.

The best part about this feature is that it’s not a fast forward feature. It indeed jumps forward 30 seconds immediately. It’s great. :)

LVM Flashback!

When I was in junior high school I would occasionally hang out in the Logan Valley Mall in the booming metropolis of Altoona, PA. The majority of my time was spent in 2 places inside the mall: B. Dalton Booksellers and Crocodile Alley. The latter of the two was a pool hall and arcade. I spent hours and hours playing Street Fighter 2, Golden Axe, and various forms of pinball. The time I spent in Crocodile Alley was directly responsible for my purchase of a Super Nintendo and accompanying Street Fighter 2 cartridge.

On December 16, 1994 the Logan Valley Mall burned in a huge fire. Large swaths of the mall were consumed by the fire, including Crocodile Alley. The fire supposedly started in the Murphy’s drugstore. Murphy’s was similar to a CVS or Walgreens. An electrical short was blamed for the fire.

The back story to the fire is that Altoona had been lobbying for a new mall for awhile. If I remember correctly, the proposal was shot down. Then the fire happened. There was speculation that the owners of the mall had it burned so that they could revamp the building. It was decided in the fire report that the mall burned because of the previously mentioned electrical short.

Eventually, they rebuilt the mall and now it is very nice. I’ll always miss Crocodile Alley though. While going through some stuff from high school I found a token from the arcade. Finding it was quite a blast from the past. It was certainly a happy discovery.
