Outrageous.
Disdain for human rights in the pursuit of corporatism is #2 in the list of the 14 points of fascism. You can’t tell me that there aren’t corporate interests in this decision. sigh

What other interests are involved?
My guess is the Saudi Royal Family’s tie to the Bush family which is in turn tied to the US Oil Industry. I’m not one that preaches the “we’re in it for the oil” jag, but this looks fishy to me. Why would we ignore one country and not another if there were no monetary or provincial advantages?
I’m not one to say that it is never about oil but there is a new king in town (saudi arabia) and hopes are high for reform. Slapping someone with penalties in thier first few months would make them look like a fool and discredit their people and give them less authority. It would be better to keep them going the direction they are going than to whack them with this… right now. Next year might be different.
This stuff (human trafficking) is utterly terrible. It is demand for these “services” that must reduced. If someone is willing to buy or kidnap a 12 year old and sell them as a sex slave, appealing to their humanity or morals won’t get you too far. It must be addressed, I would just explain the whys and hows to the new king before sanctions maybe even if would push it backa year.
However, if that was the policy for years and years with the last guy, I would be much more critical of the situation.
I don’t know the whole story, but I doubt you do either. Don’t get me wrong, I am not an apologist for everything this president does or what other presidents do. But I don’t think I see everything there is to see at first glance either.
