Full Throttle

I know that it’s probably nothing but a mindless T&A movie, but that new Charlie’s Angels movie looks like it has amazing special effects and stunts. Not to mention three really hot ladies. Sometimes there’s something to be said for a reason to escape reality.

Geocaching: Quest for Krispy Kremes

Dan and I set out this morning with a desire for Krispy Kreme doughnuts. We headed toward West Mifflin and the Century III Mall. They were giving away doughnuts fresh off the conveyor belt. I was in heaven. We ate some doughnuts, Dan had coffee, chocolate milk for myself, and then we headed out to do some caching.

We headed to do the Rainbow series in Dravosburg and this is how it went.

We drove around for a LONG time trying to find the parking spot. It all looked residential but apparently there is a childrens park down a road that looks like a driveway. We only learned this by talking to The Leprechauns later in the day. We parked over in the actual park next to the basketball court (0.5miles from Yellow) and then hiked down the power lines, then up the power lines, then down… yikes. Anyway, we found the Yellow Cache in the series with no real trouble. There was a Geo-Muggle hanging around so we had to be a bit sneaky. Dan found this one at 1:45pm. The vaseline (for waterproofing the lid) was open in the cache so some things were a bit nasty. I bagged everything in the extra Ziplocks that I had brought so things should be okay. We took nothing if I remember correctly, but we left a package of multicolored page markers.

We headed down the hill from the Yellow cache through small deer trail to the Blue Cache. I’m sure there was a better way but someone was in a big hurry. So Dan found the cache as I came down the hill. This one was pretty easy, out in the open and whatnot. Not as open as you would think given the way these caches are hidden. Very nice method. ;) At, 2:00pm, Dan and I took a picture of ourselves with the camera that Tonsil had left. I believe it was picture #23. We took the Traveling Alien #73 that The Leprechauns had left the day before. We left a chip clip that was blue AND red. This one can feel free to jump to the Red cache as well. Which is where we headed after this one

We moved from Blue Cache to Red Cache and had some difficulty finding this one due to it’s unusual placing. Dan spotted it after circling the area. I was standing right in front of it for a little while saying, Well, the GPS says its 5 feet in front of me. It was, I just didn’t see it. I like these caches alot. :) There were Geo-Muggles around that were just snooping on what we were doing. They were about 8 to 10 years old so they were pretty persistant. We saw the cache at 2:25pm, but didn’t get it open for another 15 minutes between dodging the muggles and fighting with the cache itself (see spoiler below for those of you who have found this one). We TNLN on this one but… SPOILER INFO: The ‘wrench’ that is there doesn’t work very well because of the wet ground. The cache just spins in the soft mud. It also seems thath the lid of the cache is stripped around the outside so the wrench doesn’t sit correctly. We got this one open after wrapping cardboard around the lid and jamming the wrench back on. *Whew* I got quite a workout getting this one open. I realized when we were leaving that I forgot to put the pencil back in the cache. I tried to get it back open but I couldn’t. I placed the pencil on the cache next to the wrench. I know that’s not cool, so I will come back and make a deposit when I come to get the orange cache. I didn’t get orange today because I typed the coordinates into the GPS incorrectly. It said it was 10 miles away. I KNOW that wasn’t right. ;) I’ll be back.

We headed to Schenley Park after the Rainbow series for (Ladies and Gentlemen) The Bridge and the Groom. The GPS was jumping around for awhile and there were alot of Geo-Muggles milling around but we got this one around 4pm. Dan found it and took the Apple sticker since the one on his car is coming off. We left a flattened penny.

p>We quickly jumped to Frick Park for Stone Stash. We ran into The Leprechauns on our way to this cache. Big Lep had nabbed this one already, but came along because Little Lep hadn’t been to this one. We made our way up to the cache with some treacherous mud surfing on the way. Cache was pretty easy to find, no big problems. Took the Geocaching Patch. Left a RAM keychain and a rainbow slinky.

Since Saturday, May 9, 2003

Got a free Palm IIIxe. Found “A Field Goal’s Kick Away.” Placed “Saxton Surprise.” Found “Top of Tussey.” Went to giant Drenning Family dinner in Breezewood. Went to Juniata College graduation. Got a Palm Zire. Had my 25th birthday. Went to Dave and Buster’s. That pretty much sums up the past few days.

Geocaching: Update

On Saturday Dan, Bridget, and I felt ambitious and went after five, count ‘em five, caches around the city. I’m just gonna do a quick rundown to keep things simple. I’m totally falling behind on my posting.

KidScience 1, KidScience 3, and KidScience 4 were our first targets. We had no problem with KS3, our first find of the day. We walked about 2/10ths of a mile toward KS1 and KS4 to find them quite a bit more difficult. Bridget found KS4 and I came up with KS1. We left RAM keychains in all the caches, we took a sponge from KS4, but I don’t recall taking anything from the others.

Our next stop was Elves in the Fast Lane which required a decent hike up over the hill. But we made it and got some great pictures of the rocks, highway and ball field. We took a Pittsburgh Zoo Pass, and left a RAM keychain and a slinky.

p>After Elves in the Fast Lane, we headed to Meandering Ravine. This was a beautiful hike through the woods and it was as nice a walk as Where the Salamander Swims. I highly recommend this one. We took a carbiner and left a RAM keychain. Saturdays find count gave Bridget 2 finds and 3 finds for me.
